2009 Municipal Election Candidates

Tuesday was the last day for Holyoke municipal candidates to file their papers. Not everyone who has taken out papers filed them. Most notably Miguel A Vasquez III who took out papers for mayor.

Since more than two candidates are certified for the Mayoral, and Treasurer's race there will be a preliminary, (not primary - that would be for political parties), a preliminary election on Sept. 22nd. The general election will be held on Nov. 3rd.

This is the full list of certified candidates for municipal election 2009.

Thanks for posting this! I just read the Republican article, and they got a couple things wrong...of course. They listed Barry Conway as still running for Ward 4 School Com, and I *thought* City Council actually gets paid $12,500 per year--but I may be wrong about that.

The Republican story made me double check my list. Barry Conway is not on it, and it was Thee official list as of 9:47 yesterday morning.

Why is Barry Conway out? That's interesting.

Kristen,
Vandog posted the list that the City published of certified candidates. Apparently Barry Conway either did not turn in papers, or did not have enough certifiable voters to sign his papers, or perhaps the City is still in the process of certifying his list. It is unclear.

The City Clerk's computers are down so that may have caused some issues. I just called and Barry Conway is confirmed and will be on the ballot.

Someone told me yesterday that Barry filed at the absolute last minute. So it would appear he was certified after my list was printed.

I haven't had time to go up to city hall and get a FINAL list yet, but will add Barry this list immediately.

I stand corrected...apparently City Councilors do only make $10k per year.

Barry D Conway is not on the list I retrieved today from the Registrar of Voter's office. In fact, today's list is no different than the list I received last week. However, The list is not made official for at least another week.

It looks like Barry did not have enough verifiable signatures to be certified. So the Republican got it wrong last week. Imagine that!

Wow. Seeing all the at large candidate names in one place is very powerful! I'd never really thought about what this election might mean to our current at large electeds.
