Main Street Take Down

DSC_0063

The wreckers came on Wednesday to knock down the old United Gas Station on the corner of Cabot and Main.

They also took down a small building on an adjoining parcel with frontage on Spring St. The developer traded the property with the City for slice of the parking lot on Main St.

Yet another empty space now. But hey, thanks for filling me in on this. I was wondering what was going to happen with that place.

I don't know of much that can happen with it. You can't build much on top of a site with gas tanks buried underneath it unless you mitigate it first, and that costs a medium fortune.

Hey JB, I linked a Republican article in my post that states the plan for property is to be redeveloped into a new gas station, and laundromat.

Hi, not a fan of this project.
While the precedent for a gas station had been set by the previous owners, a gas station at a major gateway/ entry point to our downtown does not make sense in a more comprehension vision for planning our city.
A community-driven planning process for the South Holyoke (http://www.votelisi.com//South%20Holyoke%20Revitalization%20Strategy%20013108%20final.pdf)neighborhoods cited this location for "signature" economic development.

Thanks for commenting Councilor Lisi. It's always great to hear from our elected officials, and learn more about what goes into their decision making process.
