Last Day Of Upland Game Season 2008

East Mountain Wildlife Management Area

This area, off Rt 141 in Holyoke, is under US Fish and Wildlife protection. It was done by the property owner who sent me these pictures.

State Map, pdf file.

East Mountain Wildlife Management Area

It's open to hiking as well as hunting, and the owner wants everyone to enjoy it

Putting the property under this protection prevents it, and the surrounding property from development by creating a 500 foot buffer zone beyond it's boundary where no new development can occur.

This vernal pond has frozen over. The woodland ducks were sliding along the top of it.

Apon the death of the owner the land becomes the property of the Federal Government, and even IF the State passes no hunting laws, any Federal land will not be affect.

Mount Tom in the distance.

Eventually, and if everything goes well, the entire mountain range will be protected with a patchwork of zones, and areas. This will prevent future mining , housing developments, roads, and motor vehicles from destroying the mountains.
