Parsons Paper Mill - $1,834,669 In Back Taxes

Holyoke heads to court to recoup mill taxes

City officials will step up their efforts tomorrow in a Delaware bankruptcy court to recoup more than $1.8 million in unpaid taxes, interest and other fees from the owners of the former Parsons Paper Co.

View down Sargent St from the train trestle.

I took some pictures of the Parsons Paper Mill yesterday in anticipation of the City's action against the owner of the building.

The building is so big that I had to stitch together photos into a panorama to get the whole thing.

Private plans are under way to demolition the building to make way for new industry.

Great old post card showing the mill in its prime.

*update* Holyoke upheld in claim case

A Delaware judge refused yesterday to dismiss a claim filed by the city against the owners of the former Parsons Paper Co., clearing the way for the city to continue its legal battle to recover $1.8 million.

I just found your blog from a link on Tommy Devine's blog. I live in Holoke 3 days a week and love all of this stuff you've assembled here. I will definitely be visiting this and sending it to my other friends in the Highlands so we can keep up with what's going on in town. Love the post about PVRR. You're right, that's never in the news.

Hey Max, Thanks for the kind comments.

I was looking at your profile, and I see you are quite the writer. So many sites, so much content to create on a daily basis. Wish I had your writing ability. Congratulations on such great sites.

I am glad you took some pictures of the building. It is currently on fire. Doesn't look like much will be left.

At this moment there is a four alarm fire at Parsons Paper Mill. I live in Holyoke and there is paper ash falling blocks away from the fire. I just happened to to a Google search on it, and happened upon this site. Looks like a night of coincidences.

Yup, It's gone. I used to work there in the baling room from 1985 til 1986. Big time sweat shop.

I grew up in Holyoke and my father’s first and ONLY job was at Parson Paper Mill, from age 21 to the day he died at 58 he work at Parson. He would come home from working the 3rd shift covered in speckles of paper. He was a good man, a working man, never moving into upper management because of an undiagnosed learning disability. He died ten year ago but somehow a little part of him died again. I now live in NY and grateful for your videos. Sheelagh

My father also worked at Parson's Paper for many many years. He retired out of there in the late 90's. This mill certainly put food on the table for a lot of families in the area. Thanks for the pics and the blog.
